Building new beds for our growing seedlings.
We’ve been busy in Greenhouse C, preparing some new in-ground beds for our cucumbers, tomatoes, peas, and a few other veggies we’ve been growing on our seeding racks. Looks like we’ll be ready to put plants in the ground later this week.
This is what Greenhouse C looked like when we first bought the farm a year ago. We didn’t use this greenhouse at all last season (instead we focused on Greenhouse A, and B). The ground of the entire greenhouse was covered in ground fabric.
This is the section we are preparing for our new beds. First, we removed the old ground tarps. Then, we used our BCS rototiller to loosen up the existing soil. Here’s what it looked like after tilling, and some watering.
Got some stakes and twine, and used a measuring tape to frame out the three beds. Each is 70’ long, and 30” wide, with 30” walking paths in between.
Ordered 10 yards of organic compost from Aptos Landscape. Perfect to rejuvenate the old soil.
Good thing we have a mini-excavator. Used it to fill the wheelbarrows from the pile of compost.
It took dozens of wheelbarrow loads to move it all into the greenhouse.
Three new beds. Ready for our new plants.
